15th-17th November Photonic&Optic

We welcomed quite the academic batch this week! Our participants included a doctor, members of the Academy of Science and University students who have dedicated themselves to entrepreneurship. We focused on the so-called ‘knowledge-based innovation,’ and Berlin is the best place to learn how to turn their business know-how to a business reality. The meetings with the Program Manager of TechStars and the Investment Director of Plug&Play definitely helped with that. Furthermore, the 3-hour-long meeting with the Head of the Center for Photonics and Optics of Adlershof Science City was the most appropriate meeting thus far.
The following three teams have extensive experience in research and have just taken their first steps toward business development:
FiberScope – Ultrafast Fiber Lasers for Advanced Nonlinear Microscopy Applied to Dermatology. This 95% in-house developed system reduces the cost of the pulsed laser. Thanks to this, the Dermatologists and skin specialists are able to capture real-time measurements.
Dental Scanner Solution – Developing a new 3D dental scanner that promotes the emergence and spreading of traditional sampling procedures with favorable parameters. This is especially important, since the traditional (gypsum) imprinting process has practically seen no changes nor innovation in the past 50 years.
3Diodic – Speeds up the metal printing process, making it applicable to serial production. To create a high-power laser matrix, they will use individually-controlled laser diodes placed in close, parallel lines which are slightly offset from one another in order to fill the gaps between the diodes.
